US natural gas supplies shrank last week (AP)

NEW YORK ? The nation's natural gas supplies fell last week, the government said Thursday.

The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report that natural gas in storage shrank by 132 billion cubic feet to 2.966 trillion cubic feet for the week ended Jan. 27.

Analysts expected a drop of 123 billion to 127 billion cubic feet, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos.

The inventory level was 25.4 percent above the five-year average of 2.365 trillion cubic feet, and 24.6 percent above last year's level of 2.380 trillion cubic feet, according to the government data.

Natural gas rose 4 cents to $2.42 per 1,000 cubic feet in New York.

Jersey mayor won't let Snooki affect 'quality of life'

"Jersey Shore" stars Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jennifer "JWOWW" Farley won't be affecting the quality of life in Hoboken, NJ if the mayor has anything to say about it.

Looks like the party's not here (if here is Hoboken, New Jersey).

Back in April, we heard news that MTV greenlighted a spinoff show for Jersey Shore's Snooki and JWoww (along with a separate show for Pauly D), but now it seems there might be a roadblock to seeing it happen.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer is not a fan of the idea and has denied the show's production company a permit to shoot there.

According to the letter sent to MTV and obtained by E! News, Mayor Zimmer says, "After careful deliberation, the members of the film commission, including representatives from Health and Human Services, Environmental Services, and the Administration, with input from our public safety officials, have determined that in the interest of public safety and quality of life, the permit application for 495 Productions/MTV's production of the Jersey Shore spin-off has been denied.

"We were extremely surprised to learn during our meeting with you that you filmed in public areas without a required permit in one location," the letter continues.

"As the mayor of a community that has experienced significant corruption in the recent past, I write to put you, 495 Productions, MTV and Viacom on formal notice that there will be zero tolerance for this kind of approach in the City of Hoboken. Any attempts to film in a manner that is not permitted without a permit will be dealt with immediately and aggressively by the City of Hoboken."

Mayor Zimmer also called the production "an attractive nuisance causing crowds to assemble at every hour of the day and night, additional traffic congestion, the attendant noise associated with large public gatherings and unacceptable lessening of the quality of life for the local residents and businesses."

This isn't the first time Jersey Shore has been denied something from the a governmental body in New Jersey.

Back in September, Governor Chris Christie denied the show a $420,000 tax credit for the show to film in his state, claiming that he was "duty-bound" to the taxpayers for not paying "for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens."

But if you think this will stop these two from doing their show, think again.

On Tuesday, Snooki posted on Facebook , "NYC for lots of press with my girl Jwowwzers ! love my booboo! Can't wait for our spinoff!!"

DC eyes Watchmen, plans prequels to 1986 series (AP)

PHILADELPHA ? More than a quarter of a century after "Watchmen" intrigued readers with tales of less-than-heroic and all-too-human ? save for Dr. Manhattan ? crime-fighting vigilantes, DC Entertainment is revisiting them in a series of original prequels this summer.

The publisher of DC Comics said Wednesday that it will launch seven interlocking and inter-connected miniseries ? each focusing on a specific character ? as it revisits the world first and last seen in the 1986-1987 12-issue series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, which has remained a staple of critics and consumers and a near-constant best-selling graphic novel.

"It's our responsibility as publishers to find new ways to keep all of our characters relevant," DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee said in a statement. "After 25 years, the Watchmen are classic characters whose time has come for new stories to be told. We sought out the best writers and artists in the industry to build on the complex mythology of the original."

Moore is not participating, but Gibbons noted that their original series was "the complete story that Alan Moore and I wanted to tell. However, I appreciate DC's reasons for this initiative and the wish of the artists and writers involved to pay tribute to our work."

In that vein, the publisher said that the writers and artists bringing the miniseries about Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Silk Spectre, Comedian and the Minutemen include writers Len Wein, who edited the original series; Darwyn Cooke; Brian Azzarello and J. Michael Straczynski. Artists include Amanda Conner, Andy and Joe Kubert, Adam Hughes, Jae Lee, J.G. Jones, Lee Bermejo and Cooke.

Wein, who is writing "Ozymandias," is also penning a two-page backup feature in each of the series dubbed "The Curse of the Crimson Corsair," which is illustrated by John Higgins, who did the colors on the original "Watchmen" series.

"'The Curse of the Crimson Corsair' was actually my idea when we first started talking about doing these new stories," Wein said. "Since, in the world of the Watchmen, DC stopped doing superhero comics early on and started a line of pirate comics instead, I thought it might be fun to see what one of the other books in the line looked like."

That's akin to the similar pirate comic that played out in the pages of "Watchmen" that Moore wrote called "Tales of the Black Freighter,'" Wein said. "'Crimson Corsair' introduces a new character to follow from the beginning of his adventure to its grisly end. I must say I'm having a lot of fun getting creeped out by what I'm writing here."

Higgins said he and Wein have kept the sense of foreboding and darkness that permeated the "Black Freighter" story.

"What we are trying to achieve with the Crimson Corsair pages within the regular new series is to create a graphic `buffer' and to use the darkness of the Crimson Corsair stories as a literary counterpoint to the regular book," he said.

Looking ahead, Higgins said that even though the Watchmen has become a touchstone for comics and graphic novels, the new series can expand on its mythology.

"The challenge is to make the stories modern and relevant to 2012 and to show what can be done with respect and consideration for the source material that has inspired so many people over the years. By adding to the mythos and not to detract from it," he said. "'The Watchmen' had such an influence on graphic storytelling since it first appeared and is a timeless classic. If we can create a new set of stories that can be enjoyed 25 years on, that would be an achievement and a reward in itself."

Erivedge Approved to Treat Basal Cell Carinoma (HealthDay)

MONDAY, January 30 (HealthDay News) -- Erivedge (vismodegib) has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat the most common form of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, the agency said Monday.

The drug was approved for people for whom surgery or radiation aren't options, and for people with basal cell that has spread to other parts of the body, according to an FDA news release.

Basal cell usually is a slow-growing, painless type of cancer that begins in the top layer of skin, often on areas most exposed to the sun.

Erivedge was evaluated in clinical studies involving 96 people with basal cell carcinoma. The most common side effects included muscle spasms, hair loss, weight loss, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, distorted taste, loss of appetite and constipation.

The drug was approved with an FDA's label warning that pregnant women who take Erivedge could have babies at greater risk of severe birth defects or death. "Pregnancy status must be verified prior to the start of Erivedge treatment," the agency release advised.

Erivedge is marketed by Genentech, based in San Francisco, Calif.

It's Beverly Hills, darling, where the problems come supersized, just like the bank accounts.

The three-part reunion just started, and you know it's going to be a rough night when?Andy Cohen's already looking a little peaked and sporting the beginnings of a five o'clock shadow.?

So what's troubling the housewives of 90210? Where to begin?

Kim Richards' rehab stay is mostly off limits since she's not there and Kyle Richards is not talking. But viewers already know Andy's going to get the scoop in a one-on-one sitdown with Kim in a couple of weeks, so all will be revealed in the end.?

But with Kim out of the picture and "super slut" Brandi Glanville not showing up until the end of the show, the ladies need somebody to sink their fangs into and it happens to be Lisa Vanderpump?and her "donkey booty" (it's not enhanced, FYI).

"Being in a friendship with you is like playing chess with Bobby Fisher. Every move is very calculated," Kyle says to the Brit. That sounds harsh, but it's not even the worst of it.

Adrienne Maloof seems to have the biggest beef with Lisa, which is a shame. It's not Bethenny Frankel and Jill Zarin breakup-level sad, but the two do seem fairly decent and have each tried to broker peace among the Housewives this season. Apparently, they should have been working on each other.?

Adrienne's got a list of complaints starting with Lisa's crack about the Maloof hoof.?The Palms hotel owner is also P.O.'d that Pandy held her bachelorette party at a competing hotel in Vegas and upset that Lisa called her dog a crackpot on Twitter.?

And then there's her chef?Bernie and his ongoing feud with the Villa Blanca restaurateur.?

According to Adrienne, who admits she heard these accounts second hand, Lisa complained about Bernie serving Mexican food ("so ethnic") and called his cooking dry. When asked by Andy to choose a side, Adrienne refuses to side with Lisa against her lippy chef.

On top of that, she accuses Lisa of selling stories to the tabloids. It is possible, but it does seem funny to think of Lisa padding her multimillion-dollar bank account with a couple of checks for a few thousand dollars.

Regardless, Lisa is not amused.?"I think that's such a f------- insult to say that to a friend. That's such a low blow ... that I've lost respect for her over this situation."?

And while Russell Armstrong's death was all but ignored in the season finale, Andy pushes for answers tonight -- starting with why would Taylor Armstrong agree to be on a reality series while being in an abusive relationship.

"At some stage, I might have believed that the cameras would provide me with some protection," explains Taylor. "Because if there are cameras following me and we're public figures, then it would either have the abuse stop because he wouldn't want that aired on television or it would force us into a divorce."

As for why Russell would want to be a part of the show? Taylor diagnosis her ex as a narcissist who enjoyed the attention.?

She and Lisa also revealed some of the more aggressive emails Russell sent, calling her a "whore" or the birthday message that ended with "F--- you, you psychotic b----."

It's not entirely unexpected given the abuse claims.?Camille Grammer's admission that she was allegedly emotionally abused was a little more surprising. "I understand part of it, very much so. Not physically, but you're constantly being criticized for little things. Laughing too much or not laughing enough."

With her ex,?Kelsey Grammer, being accused of shooting a blonde look-alike on "30 Rock" last week, this former couple obviously has some issues to work out.?
